Imperial Manufacturing Group
Entrepreneurial energy, hard work, innovation and "people power" have transformed a tiny company from Richibucto, NB into a thriving global operation.
In 1979, Normand Caissie started his company with four employees and a 6,400 square-foot sheet metal shop. In 2005, after a quarter century in business, the company now employs 800 people, and is housed in 500,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and Illinois, US.
Imperial Manufacturing Group or IMG, is a diverse operation with 10 member companies that produce
more than 7,000 products for the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and building products
industries, supplying a multitude of companies in Canada and the USA, as well as abroad. The
company has seen perpetual growth from strategic acquisitions and market penetration through
strong client relationships and customer service.
In the past 5 years, enormous effort has been focused on bringing the work force to a level in which
to compete in the global market. This effort includes the introduction of key initiatives such as
LEAN MANUFACTURING, Principle Centered Leadership, External Strategic Alliances & Internal
Strategic Alignment, as well as a number of critical technologies, such as ERP Oracle solutions.
Safety in the workplace is a prime concern for IMG. A dynamic team of employees has brought numerous
changes in this area, over the last few years. In 2002 IMG implemented the 5*22 health and
safety program. Injury analyses were conducted, high-risk activities were targeted and a communication strategy was developed, resulting in increased education and awareness surrounding health and safety. Over the past two years IMG has seen a 60% accident reduction, as well as a decrease in the severity of accidents. With involvement from management and employees IMG continues to thrive to make Safety the # 1 Priority.
According to Berthe Richard, Imperial Traffic Supervisor, the company’s growth has caused increased outbound and inbound traffic between Canada and the USA. With distribution centers on both sides of the border, and an increased focus on security, constant changes at the US and Canadian border crossings bring more and more challenges to the traffic department. IMG has made the security changes necessary in the Richibucto plant warehouse and yard, and is now awaiting CTPAT approval. Richard says, "moving freight efficiently is critical to the success of the Imperial group of companies and we will continually strive to improve the way we manage our transportation business".
Needless to say, Imperial Manufacturing Group is a company who is making significant strides, and
a place where those who choose to build their careers can make a difference.
